So.......about that reliable hardware you're selling us Microsoft....

Well...*ahem*.... this is awkward. My Xbox 360 started working properly again without the disk tray making the grinding noise just for it to stop me using disk based games today.

I got in today, had The Orange Box in and decided I wanted to play something else. Now, instead of it opening the disk tray and allowing me to take out the game, it, to my surprise opened with no disk there. Now a game going missing is bad enough, even worse when your 360 has actually eaten the disk but it couldn't just stop at that. Oooh no, it had to top that and make sure I couldn't play any disk based games at all. The disk tray now refuses to shut, it starts to, makes a little whirring noise and opens fully out again. The disk it ate is stopping the tray from closing and the Xbox 360 will not push it back.

Basically, i'm screwed. So far i've found no way to get the disk out and can't think of any without damaging the console. It is out of warranty so getting a repair and my disk back for free is out of the question. To top that off, I can't find a price on the Xbox site anywhere so i've no idea whether I should buy a brand new one or get it fixed. I have no idea how I would go about sending it off with the disk tray open anyways.

So there you go, quality hardware from Micro$oft right there. Here's hoping I get it sorted out this week - I have an original Xbox game to play online while I still can.

1080p gaming here I come

Just got my new 32" 1080p hd tv there. Cost more than i'd like but i'm finally in the world of HD on consoles.

All I need now is for my Xbox to break at some point tonight....
(unfortunately - I won't allow myself to break it. I reaally want that FFXIII Special Edition)

Good weather

Very good weather recently, clear skies, warm, sun is out - what better a time to play a game than this?

For once I can have the blinds open and enjoy the weather. I might actually take a break from games and start going out for a bit. If the weather stays then I things are going to pick up for this blog as i'll be in a better mood more often. I'm much more active when the weather is like this and so you can expect a lot of posts if it keeps up.

Remember: i'm always looking for feedback and more readers so if you think i've done alright so far with posts please recommend people to here.

Achievement/Trophy Guides

Achievements and Trophies are a huge aspect of gaming these days. They extend the life of a game and add to a game for many gamers.
Now I am not terribly big on the achievement scene as I prefer to just play the game as I see fit but I do understand the appeal of them and why people have so much fun going for them.
I also understand that getting achievements can be hard to do and are not always clear as to how to obtain them and so can make them very frutstrating if you're going for that full 1000G. It doesn't matter how good you are at games, sometimes you just need a little help in how to get a certain achievement.

Would anyone be interested in me posting achievement guides for games or writing guides for certain achievements?
Maybe a seperate blog for achievements that I would link to?

I would be more than happy to do this if there is enough interest in it and could even get a few friends to contribute to helping out. It could be handy for you to be able to get some help in achievements and it could add some fun to the games(or indeed frustration) in figuring out a good way to earn these achievements and actually pulling it off.

Let me know what you think of this. Are you interested or would you prefer this blog to stick to talking about games and less about achievements?

Just Cause 2 - Demo fun

The Just Cause 2 demo was released recently. I've had a go on the PC and the Xbox 360 version and i've enjoyed every second of it.

The demo is 30 minutes long but that is more than enough time to explore a good section of the demo area and do a few missions. The demo starts you off in a friendly zone which acts as a respawn point where you come back to every time you die. you start quite high up so you have a few options when you start off. You can wander down the mountain safely, jump off and open your parachute or you can climb up a bit into enemy territory and steal a helicopter.

From what I can gather you can do some missions of which extend the time limit on the demo upon completion and earn you some unlocks. I have yet to intentionally do a mission though as all I have done is mess around and have some fun. I had a great time gliding around the enviroment and attaching people to cars.
I will be trying out the missions at some point though as that's where most of the content will be and I will eventually get bored of running around with no purpose. It looks like a good game and if you've not tried the demo out yet, I highly recommend it.

A great week for gamers

Next week is looking to be great for gamers with Final Fantasy XIII being released on Tuesday. I have been waiting for this since I saw the announcement trailer and has left me hyped about it ever since.

What's great is that there will be a collector's edition available which includes:

* FINAL FANTASY XIII Original Sound
Selection CD
* The World of FINAL FANTASY XIII: Hardback
book featuring character artwork, CG
rendered artwork and environments from
across the game production.
*3 Exclusive Art Prints
*Unique decal

I like my collector's editions in games and this looks to be quite a good deal.

There will be a Special Edition released exclusively for the Xbox 360 as well which contains an Xbox 360, a FFXIII branded 250Gb hard drive, a faceplate(if you buy from Game), 2 controllers, a headset, 1 month of Gold and a copy of FFXIII.

That is a great bundle right there and is sure to have a place for any Final Fantasy fan. Problem for me being is i've just ordered the PS3 version of FFXIII and bought a new TV(about time too) and so I don't want to spend all that money at once. My Xbox 360s disk reader is about to die though and I will be needing a new 360 when it does which makes this all the more frustrating for me.
I wonder if my 360 would conveniently die this afternoon....

Anyway, apart from that this week is going to be brilliant for the likes of me, probably the best week for gaming this year.

Whether you own an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3, you're sure to have a great time with this.

*I will be posting my thoughts on the game after I get it and have had a play of it.
Welcome to Gin Tama Gaming(Silver Soul Gaming - whatever you prefer to call it) - a new blog for anything about games. I have a huge passion for games, spend a lot of time playing them and decided to share my passion for them with anyone who is interested.

At the moment I will just be posting thoughts on games and consoles and possibly a few reviews from time to time but eventually I plan on setting up a channel and broadcasting games that i'm playing and possibly get a few people together to talk about various things. I do not have the necessary equipment to enable me to connect my consoles, tv and PC together for broadcasting so that will have to wait until I get a hold of it and get a better idea of how to set it all up.

So i'll get this blog started with talk about games in the next post. Constructive feedback is always appreciated and if you find this blog is to your liking then please tell others about it - the more feedback and people reading, the more this blog can develop and improve.

Thanks for reading and i'll see you in the next post.
